James Hayes took five wickets as Nottinghamshire’s Second XI wrapped up a resounding win over Warwickshire at Portland Road.

Right-armer Hayes took the hosts’ middle order apart, finishing with figures of 5/20 to help Notts to victory by an innings and 93 runs.

Calvin Harrison (2/9), Toby Pettman (2/37) and Tom Barber (1/26) also made useful inroads into a Bears line-up which was dismissed for 207.

Resuming on 56/0, Warwickshire opener Dan Mousley retired not out, with Amir Khan striding to the middle alongside captain Ed Pollock.

Pollock reached his half-century before edging behind off Pettman, who promptly castled his replacement Adam Hose a matter of overs later.

Then came a decisive intervention from Hayes, with Ethan Brookes (10), Amir Khan (11), Dan Lincoln (8) and VV Kelley (2) all departing without seriously troubling the scorers.

In the space of eight overs, Warwickshire had fallen from 113-2 to 131-6, and their misery continued when Barber removed Manraj Johal for 4.

Hayes’ final victim was George Garrett (1), before leg-spinner Calvin Harrison wrapped up the contest by removing Ryan Sidebottom (15) and trapping last man T Ali for a duck.

The Second XI travel to the North East next, with a four-day encounter in Durham beginning on Bank Holiday Monday.
