Dane Paterson, Nottinghamshire’s incoming overseas fast-bowler, put 11 overs in his legs as a Nottinghamshire XI played a practice fixture against their Warwickshire counterparts at Edgbaston Community Sports Ground.

The South African international, who played no cricket in 2020 due to a chest injury, got stronger as the day went on and trapped Ashish Chakrapani lbw with the home side posting 225-5 from their 50 over innings. Notts closed on 121-7 from 26 overs in reply.

Fielding first, Nottinghamshire ran into an aggressive cameo of 81 from 88 balls from Ed Pollock within an opening stand of 140 alongside Dan Mousley (49).

The Notts bowlers recovered during the afternoon session with Toby Pettman, Tom Barber, Lyndon James and James Hayes each taking a wicket and Matthew Carter, in his first run out of pre-season, collecting figures of 0-31 from eight overs.

Lyndon James, the Academy graduate all-rounder, opened the batting and was fourth man out in the visitors’ reply for 38, while Carter top-scored with a dashing cameo of 41 off 44 balls.
