Nottinghamshire endured a challenging first day of their Vitality County Championship clash against Somerset, being bowled out just shy of 200 at Taunton.
Matthew Montgomery top-scored with a determined 48 from 84 deliveries, while there was useful support from Joe Clarke the in-form (39), but a Craig Overton-led home attack were able to make consistent inroads.
In reply, Calvin Harrison ended a century partnership for the first wicket when luring Matt Renshaw into edging to slip, with Somerset reaching stumps at 116/1.
After losing captain Haseeb Hameed in the first over of the day, Notts rebuilt through Ben Slater and Will Young’s 49-run stand, with both finding the boundary in eye-catching fashion.
But Slater edged behind on 25, with Young adjudged lbw for 27 shortly after.
Clarke, fresh from a century in each of his opening two appearances of the summer, appeared in good touch once more – particularly as he strode down the wicket to hit Shoaib Bashir over midwicket for six.
It would be Bashir that accounted for Clarke, however, with Haynes following shortly afterwards.
Montgomery had been steadfast in anchoring the Nottinghamshire innings, with the occasional flourish in the form of seven boundaries, but he would edge Overton to second slip two short of a half-century.
Lyndon James (18) and Brett Hutton (20) reached double figures, but Notts were ultimately dismissed for 193, bringing about a slightly early Tea interval.
In reply, Matt Renshaw and Sean Dickson were occasionally troubled by the visiting attack, before the former departed for 34. Somerset trailed by 77 at stumps.
