Steven Mullaney has cooled speculation regarding a future career in acting – and has also ruled out a moustache – despite his starring role in the trailer for Cricket Has Landed 2.

The 90-second sneak preview takes viewers back to the early 1990s when Mullaney, a fresh-faced five-year-old from the sleepy Cheshire village of Leigh, discovered the cricketing talent that would later help him save the world.

“Last year Cricket Has Landed was one of the most talked about things around the country,” said the 28-year-old Notts Outlaws all-rounder.

“It was great to be involved then, and this year they’ve taken it to a new level.

“It was tough during the filming getting in at six at night and not getting back until one in the morning.

“But it gets bums on seats - it gets people through the door and supporting us, so it is definitely worthwhile.

“It’s something I enjoyed doing and I know the other lads really got into it as well, although I don’t think the wife would be happy if I went for the moustache.

“I’ll probably get a bit of a ribbing from the lads for that."

The first edition of Cricket Has Landed, which was released to promote the 2014 NatWest T20 Blast campaign and won a Royal Television Society Award, saw Mullaney, Riki Wessels and Sam Wood save the city of Nottingham from a meteorite attack.

But the movie ended on a cliffhanger as the Notts Outlaws trio bracing themselves for a further alien assault.

Cricket Has Landed 2, to be released one week from now – seven days out from the NatWest T20 Blast opener against the Birmingham Bears – will pickup the story.

Mullaney moved to distance himself from a career in acting once his playing days are over, instead tipping his on screen boyhood double for a successful life in-front of the camera.

The former Lancashire man did, however, hint at one last big screen comeback in 2016.

“I wouldn’t have thought it will be something to I’ll do when my career finishes,” he said. “I find it a bit strange trying to be serious the whole time.

“I think I can leave all that to mini-Mull He’s a lovely little lad, he came over from Yorkshire to do the filming and he was brilliant. He certainly didn’t take many shots to do his acting.

“The guys at Affixxius Productions are brilliant. I’m sure they’ve done a great job.

“I can’t wait to see the finished item and I’m sure everybody will be talking about it again.

“For me, it’s something different, it was great fun and I know they’ve got big things planned for next year’s video, so let’s see what happens.”
