An unfortunate injury to Ben Phillips opened the door for Brett Hutton to make an unexpected first class debut at the start of the 2011 season. Called up at short notice to replace the former Somerset man on Nottinghamshire’s trip to Abu Dhabi to face the MCC, his ability to swing the pink Kookaburra ball in practice earned him a starting place.

Despite not taking a wicket in the 18 overs he bowled, Brett didn’t look over-awed by the experience and will be keen to appear at that level again soon.

The opportunity may not arise in 2012 however, as Brett is a key inclusion in the England Under-19 side that will be participating in this years World Cup in Australia.

Strong performances in 5 Youth ODIs against South Africa last summer ensured his participation on winter trips to Bangladesh and Australia, where he will be hoping to return and collect some silverware later this year.

Brett’s medium-fast bowling and aggressive lower order hitting are closely being monitored by the Notts coaching staff and he was given two further first team opportunities last term, a one-day friendly against Sri Lanka A and a CB40 game against Lancashire.
