Luke Fletcher has targeted a round half century of Specsavers County Championship wickets as he gears up for the new 2018 season.

The right-arm seam bowler had a tremendous first half of his 2017 season as he took 36 four-day wickets at 22.44 in nine matches.

The 29-year-old also played five matches in the Royal London One-Day Cup as the team went on to win the 50-over competition with victory against Surrey at Lord’s.

“I would love to have a 50-wicket season and win Division One, which would be fantastic.”

A much-publicised head injury in the second game of the Outlaws’ T20 campaign ended Fletcher’s season in early July, but the man nicknamed the Bulwell Bomber has made a strong recovery over the winter and has his sights set high this summer.

“I would love to have a 50-wicket season and win Division One, which would be fantastic,” said Fletcher. “I want to contribute well in the longer format.

“Anywhere between 50 and 60 wickets is generally looked on as a really good season if you play in all the games, so that’s where I’m aiming.

“With the T20 stuff and the One-Day stuff, I want to help the lads continue where they left off last season, which means winning more silverware.

“If we can maintain that and go one better in Division One after our promotion, that would be brilliant.”

Fletcher is good friends with newly-installed captain Steven Mullaney and is looking forward to be captained by him come April.

“Mull’s a great lad and I’m sure he will do really well in the role.”

The all-rounder has replaced the long-serving Chris Read, who retired last September after a stellar 20-year career at Trent Bridge.

Fletcher added: “It’s going to be good having Mull as skipper and I’m sure it will be good fun. I think he was a good appointment.

“I have only ever had Chris Read as captain during my time here, but Mull’s a great lad and I’m sure he will do really well in the role.”
