Date of birth: 26 August 1991, Chesterfield, Derbyshire
Nottinghamshire First-Class Debut: 29 August 2018 v Surrey (The Oval)
One of the most consistent opening batters in the county game, Ben Slater has been a revelation for Notts since signing from near-neighbours Derbyshire in 2018.
A century on his home debut against Yorkshire endeared him to the Trent Bridge faithful, and the Chesterfield-born left-hander has amassed over 2,500 first-class runs for the county.
Last summer he pushed his own personal boundaries a little further, making a maiden double hundred against Durham at Chester-le-Street, an innings that finally ended unbeaten on 225.
Slater has made the most of his appearances in the domestic one-day cup competition, too, to maintain a phenomenal average north of 60. An innings of 104 on his 31st birthday against Lancashire at Blackpool wasn’t quite enough to secure a semi-final berth for the Outlaws.
The reward for many hours working in the nets came during the Division Two campaign in 2022 when Slater showed that there may be another string to his bow, as his off-spin was given a number of airings and picked up three wickets.
