FANTASY ASHES: FIRST TEST TOP 500

England suffered a heavy defeat in this winter's first Ashes Test over the weekend, Australia dominant with bat and ball and ending the contest inside four days. There was no shortage of drama, which translated into a fascinating first week for Trent Bridge's Fantasy Ashes Competition.

Mitchell Johnson ended the first Test as the most valuable player, his hostile approach with both bat and ball leading to him collecting 408 points. His closest rival was Stuart Broad, almost 100 fewer with 311.

With regard to the wildcard category, Michael Carberry shone as the most popular choice, but those who elected to place their faith elsewhere may have been rewarded over the weekend. Brad Haddin returned 197 points thanks to consistent runs and catches from behind the stumps, more than 150 more than his wicket-keeping counterpart Matt Prior.

Congratulations to Simon Kitchener, who saw his 'Harps Heroes' charge to the head of the table with 1474 points and will be the first recipient of a spot prize this winter. He'll have one eye over his shoulder, though, with Gareth Parry's 'Sproston Greens' just 50 points behind. With an iPad as the prize for the competition's winner, there's still a lot to play for.

Of the Trent Bridge representatives, youngster Simon Webster topped the scores with 785, just 29 ahead of Paul Franks. Propping up the players' table at this stage is Samit Patel, whose 'Slippery's Superstars' slid to just 371 points.
