Farhan Ahmed hit twin fifties and Tom Giles took six match wickets as Nottinghamshire Second XI returned to winning ways with a 207-run victory over Durham in Darlington.

Ahmed, batting at three, top-scored in the visitors’ first innings with 78 as they posted 335 all out after being put in, with Josh Beer also contributing 58 and the last two wickets adding 101 to the score.

Despite Luke Symington then making an unbeaten 93 in Durham’s initial response, figures of 3/37 from 16 overs for Giles saw the hosts bowled out for 202, remarkably with no other batter making it to 20.

With a 133-run first-innings lead safely in the bank, Notts then set about batting the North East outfit out of the game, a task they achieved by posting 245.

Led by Ahmed’s 52, giving him a total of 130 runs in the game, and valuable contributions of 44 off 37 balls from Travis Holland, promoted to open, and 37 from Toby Lambert, the hosts were set 378 to win.

It was a target they never looked like reaching, as a double burst for Giles, who claimed 3/52, in his opening spell saw Durham reduced to 28-3, before Ahmed’s 3/39 dismissed them for 171.
