Akhil Patel hit the winning runs as Nottinghamshire Second Eleven secured maximum points in their Championship game against Glamorgan.

On what had become a slow pitch, and without spinner Jason Brown who left the field with a sore back, the four man pace attack of Charlie Shreck, Mark Footitt, Paul Franks and Andy Carter removed Glamorgan for a second innings 232 setting up Notts for a nine wicket victory.

The home team had slumped to 101-6 at lunch on day three with Carter generating good pace and earning two leg before decisions in successive balls. Charlie Shreck had made the early breakthrough having Watkins leg before to the first ball of the day and then having Owen caught at square leg by Matt Wood.

After lunch, Will Bragg, who had retired hurt over night, returned to hold Notts up for over three hours as Glamorgan reached 222-9 at tea.

The last wicket put on 60 before Carter had the last man Hawley lbw.

Bragg, who had farmed the bowling well, was left undefeated on 115 but Andy Carter had a big influence on the game, ending with match figures of 9-84

Notts lost Will Jefferson for 19 and Patel hit the winning run with just 14 overs remaining for a nine wicket victory.
