Notts Academy bowler Adam Shepherd celebrated his inclusion in the England Under 18 squad with a four wicket haul against Thorseby Colliery as the side continued to dominate the Bassetlaw League.

After winning the toss and asking the home side to bat, two early wickets for Shepherd and one for Bobby Gamble had Thoresby reduced to 42-3 but a fourth wicket stand of 67 between Faroouq Aziz and Nayeem Ahmed halted progress.

Ben McGuire then took two quick wickets, including Ahmed for 37, and then Akhil Patel had Aziz caught behind by Shafique for 46. After a 15 minute rain break, Shepherd took two wickets in successive balls, both bowled, to end the innings for 135.

Shepherd finished with figures of 4-21, Bobby Gamble took 2-29, Ben McGuire 2-21 and Akhil Patel 2-11.

Notts lost early wickets in reply as Sam Wood (1) and Akhil Patel (14) fell but Sam Kelsall and Ben McGuire steadied the innings. At 55-2 play was delayed by a heavy shower but the umpires led the teams back on to the field at 7.08pm with the Academy needing a further 84 from 18 overs. With dark clouds threatening, Ben McGuire went on the attack and Notts reached their target with six overs remaining.

McGuire finished on 73 not out with five sixes and five fours. Sam Kelsall supported him well giving him the strike where possible and reaching 42 not out.
