Former Nottinghamshire man Akhil Patel shone with the bat as Kimberley met Notts Academy in a keenly contested Notts Premier League match at Lady Bay.

Patel made 48 in Kimberley’s total of 172/9, a total Notts would have felt confident in eclipsing had rainfall not forced from the field on 145/6 inside 37 overs.

Adam Tillcock and Andrew Parkin-Coates each took 3-46 with Bobby Gamble also picking up two wickets.

Openers Tom Rowe (37) and Anuj Dal (28) both fell to Akhil Patel but Sam Kelsall (47) and Adeel Shafique (27) made good ground before they were caught in the deep trying to wrap up victory before the rain came.
