Notts Set For
Barbados Tune-Up

Featured News | 11th March 2013

Nottinghamshire depart for Barbados on Wednesday for some intensive warm weather preparation ahead of the English domestic season.

A total of six county teams will be competing in the 4th Annual Barbados Pre-Season Pro Cricket Camp, which runs through to March 23rd.

The camp, which is organized by the Barbados Tourism Authority, incorporates The Barbados T20 Cup and The Barbados T20 Plate.

Apart from the Outlaws, Warwickshire, Hampshire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire and Yorkshire will be making the trip, with local opposition being provided by Barbados and The Combined Campuses and Colleges side (CCC), who both participate in the West Indies’ regional 4-day competition.

Mick Newell’s side open their programme of tour fixtures next Saturday evening when they face a Barbados XI in the T20 Cup under lights at the 3Ws Oval.

One year ago the two sides met at the same stage of the competition with Notts winning by 4 wickets at the Kensington Oval.

This time the clash will take place at the other major first class venue in Bridgetown, the ground named after three great cricketing knights, Sir Frank Worrell, Sir Clyde Walcott and Sir Everton Weekes.

Depending on the outcome of the fixture Notts will then either continue in the Barbados T20 Cup the following day, or compete in the Plate competition alongside the other first round losers.

Yorkshire will be defending the main award, having defeated 2011 winners Warwickshire in last year’s final after overcoming Notts in the semi final.

The remainder of Nottinghamshire’s playing programme this year involves a couple of 2-day friendly fixtures.

Beginning on Tuesday 19th March they head to North Stars Cricket Club to play an all-East Midlands clash against Derbyshire.

Yorkshire provide the final opposition of the 11-day trip in another 2-day fixture, which begins at Windward Cricket Club on Friday 22nd March.

Sun 18 March v tbc (T20) Barbados T20 Cup & Plate semi final and final
