Samit Patel is one of four Nottinghamshire players inside the FTI Most Valuable Player Rankings Top 20 after just over half a season.

Patel, who has scored more MVP points than anyone else since the rankings began in 2007, has never won the overall title but sits second after recent matches.

However, he will be confident of his chances this season as he sits just 16 points behind Tom Smith with his season so far yielding an impressive 1147 runs and 27 wickets across both formats.

Further Notts players in the top 20 include Riki Wessels (11th), Alex Hales (17th) and Peter Siddle (18th).

Wessels in particular has been an integral part of the side which sits at the top of the LV= County Championship table and third in the NatWest T20 Blast North group.

The right-hander has scored 1098 runs and taken 22 catches across both forms with his T20 form being extra influential, his runs coming at a strike rate of 150.
