Notts Outlaws all-rounder Steven Mullaney expects to be fit to face Lancashire Lightning on Friday despite being ruled out of the LV= County Championship match against Northamptonshire.

Mullaney aggrevated a back muscle in net bowling practice and took a knock on the elbow in training for the match but both injuries have been assessed as minor and shouldn't keep him out of the NatWest T20 Blast opener.

"I felt a bit of pain in my back while I was bowling and put it down to cramp but the last ball I bowled tightened it a bit more so it's best for me to sit this one out," said Mullaney.

"I don't want to aggrevate it further so I'll rest up today and see how I feel on Monday."

Alex Hales will replace Mullaney in the Nottinghamshire side having been recalled from his loan spell with Worcestershire.

"I'm pleased for Alex although it's obviously unfortunate for me to miss a game because I always want to be involved," said Mullaney.

"We all know what he's capable of and he'll be keen to get runs on the board."

Mullaney will spend the afternoon watching the culmination of the Premier League. An avid Manchester City fan, he will escape the attentions of s strong Liverpool contingent in the Nottinghamshire dressing room.

"Mick Newell, Phil Jaques and Peter Siddle are all Liverpool fans so it's been good fun watching things unfold over the last few weeks," said Mullaney.

"They seemed to be in control but now it's down to Man City and hopefully I'll be celebrating later."
