Former Nottinghamshire batsman Clive Rice will travel to India for surgery after scans revealed he has a brain tumour.

According to reports, Rice collapsed at his home in South Africa over the weekend, but his family have confirmed that he has been able to go about his daily duties, and will travel to Bangalore to seek treatment.

Rice joined Nottinghamshire following the departure of Sir Garry Sobers from Trent Bridge, and announced his arrival with 1,128 first class runs and 53 wickets in the 1975 season.

He excelled alongside Richard Hadlee, the pair the driving force behind Nottinghamshire's success in the 1980's.

Rice returned to Trent Bridge as Nottinghamshire's first team coach between 1999 and 2002.

We wish him the very best in his recovery.
