Adam Voges and Michael Carberry ensured that the Perth Scorchers’ fine run of form in the KFC T20 Big Bash League continued today, as the pair forged a partnership worth 114 in downing the Brisbane Heat.

Set a modest 135 to win, the Scorchers lost Marcus Harris and Michael Klinger inside the opening powerplay, bringing Voges and Carberry together with the score 23-2.

Voges, who impressed for Nottinghamshire as overseas player over four years with the county, with his ability to keep scores ticking over and rotating the strike effectively in T20 matches. He was at his best against the Heat, allowing the explosive Carberry to bludgeon 77 from just 37 deliveries to win the match.

Voges’ 35 not out provided the spine of the innings, while Carberry was punishing, especially at the expense of Andrew Flintoff, whose sole over was dispatched for 18, including back to back sixes for the English batsman.

What had initially appeared an attritional chase for the Scorchers ended with 25 balls to spare.

The Scorchers were disciplined with the ball, too. Nathan Reardon’s unbeaten 52 provided the only real resistance of note, with starts from Jimmy Pierson, Peter Forrest and James Hopes stopped short of conversion into scores of note.

The Scorchers now lie second in the BBL04 table behind the Adelaide Strikers, while both Sydney Franchises currently occupy the final knockout spaces.

The Outlaws-bolstered Sixers, boasting Michael Lumb and Riki Wessels in their eleven, are third, two points below the top two, while the Thunder have matches in hand over their rivals.

Notts Outlaws hope to break the 10,000 barrier when reigning champions Birmingham Bears visit Trent Bridge for a NatWest T20 Blast encounter on Friday 15 May. Adult tickets have been reduced to £10 with further discounts in place for under 16s (£5), under 21s (£7) over 65s (£7) buying in advance. Secure your seats here.
