Stuart Broad has spent some time in the nets with his Nottinghamshire teammates prior to touring the West Indies with England and he's backing Mick Newell's side to challenge across all formats in 2015.

Broad recalls Newell issuing a rallying call to the squad at the conclusion of the 2014 campaign and the 28-year-old believes those words of wisdom have worked wonders.

"Everybody is just desperate for the season to get going after getting back from the pre-season tour," Broad said.

"Mick set a challenge to the squad at the end of last season; spots are available, you've got a winter to make them yours. That spurred everybody on to work very hard this winter and there are some younger guys really starting to make an impression alongside some really good new signings."

Newell's men begin their campaign with four successive fixtures in the LV= County Championship followed by the NatWest T20 Blast curtain raiser at Trent Bridge against Birmingham Bears on Friday 15th May.

Having bolstered the ranks with the recruitment of Greg Smith from Leicestershire, Will Gidman from Gloucestershire and Brendan Taylor from Zimbabwe, as well as an overseas combination containing Vernon Philander, Ben Hilfenhaus and Darren Sammy, Broad believes Nottinghamshire have the potential to go all the way in both red and white ball cricket.

"The LV= County Championship is certainly on Notts' radar," he said.

"Mick talks about it being the big one because it takes all season and you've got to play consistently good cricket.

"Yorkshire were probably head and shoulders above any other team last season, but we've made some really good signings.

"The runs are there, it will be about getting the 20 wickets and - with the likes of Philander and Hilfenhaus alongside the youthfulness of Will Gidman, Luke Fletcher, Andy Carter and the others boys, we've certainly got a great chance.

"NatWest T20 Blast wise, we've fallen at the last hurdle this last four or five years really, with a squad that should be making finals day.

"That's part of the reason Mick's gone for someone like Darren Sammy. With him being available for four or five games then quarter-finals and finals day, he's the sort of bloke who can get a team over the line in 20 overs with bat, ball or in the field.

"He looks the sort of signing that will stand up in big games and that's what we want."
