Sam Wood continued to impress with the bat in the early stages of the season as his fifty was one of highlights on a rain-affected second day of Nottinghamshire Seconds’ friendly with a Lincolnshire Development XI.

Wood, who hit 112 and 53 in the Championship draw against Warwickshire last week, struck ten boundaries in a composed 64 at the top of the order.

His half-century, coupled with knocks from Luke Wood, Matt Carter and Ben Kitt left the seconds 77 behind at close, ending the day on 240-7.

After Lincolnshire had declared overnight, Nottinghamshire began their batting day with Sam Wood and Anuj Dal at the crease.

Dal was first out, bowled by Alex Willerton for six bringing Tom Moores (24) to the crease, who provided solid support to the elegant Wood, before he was bowled by Dan Freeman.

Wood also lost Will Gidman (4) soon after but that didn’t stop him going to his fourth score of over 50 so far this season, to add to his half century and 4-14 on debut for Plumtree over the previous weekend.

Wood’s innings finally came to a close when he edged through to wicketkeeper Jack Timby off Freeman, the fourth Nottinghamshire wicket to fall with 122 on the board.

From there a number of Nottinghamshire got starts as the middle and lower order spent valuable time at the crease.

Brett Hutton had made 20 before he was caught behind off Willerton (3-57), whilst Luke Wood hit a 32-ball 39, including six boundaries.

Carter (28*) and Kitt (22*) then put on an unbeaten 54 in the final 8.4 overs of the day, leaving the sides 77 runs apart at the end of day two.
