Stuart Broad, on the back of his 6-17 to help England secure a series victory in South Africa, has moved to the top of the ICC Test Bowling Rankings for the first time in his career.

Broad’s 15th Test five-wicket haul was enough to see him gain 27 ranking points to take him above Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

The man-of-the match performance from Broad in Johannesburg has seen him follow Steve Harmison (2004) and Sir Ian Botham (1980) in topping the bowling charts.

With Broad having secured top spot in the bowling, England could finish the South Africa series with players on top of both the batting and bowling charts, Joe Root’s century in the third Test lifting him to second in the ICC Batting Rankings, behind Australian captain Steven Smith.

Dale Steyn, James Anderson and Vernon Philander, third, fifth and tenth respectively on the bowling charts and AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla, fourth and eighth on the batting equivalent, round up the players in the top 10s from the current series in South Africa.
