Nottinghamshire bound Imran Tahir completed the remarkable feat of a seven wicket haul as South Africa triumphed against the West Indies in St Kitts and Nevis yesterday.

The all format international became the first South African player to register the achievement in an ODI match, making his figures of 7-45 the best in the nation’s history.

Along with career best bowling analysis on the night, Tahir took his 100th ODI wicket in just his 58th match, becoming the fastest South African bowler to reach the three-figure milestone.

The West Indies were all out for 204 in 38 overs at Warner Park, losing the Tri-Series match by 139 runs.

South Africa had earlier posted 343-4 with former Outlaw Hashim Amla scoring 110 off 99 balls, his 23rd ODI century, while former Lancashire man Francois du Plessis blitzed 105 at the death.

"I feel really proud. I will take that any day," Tahir said.

"When things like this happen, you feel good about yourself and all the hard work you've done in the nets.

"They [West Indies] are attacking players and we know that. When someone attacks you, there is always an opportunity and that's what I look for," he added.

"The West Indian boys can chase anything. It is a big challenge as a spinner to play modern day cricket, where you have five players in the circle.

“Thanks to technology, you can sit and see the opposition's mistakes and try to learn from them. It's very challenging as a spinner but it's good as well because that makes you perfect."

Following a short stint with Nottinghamshire in 2015, during which all three appearances were away from home, Tahir is set to make his Trent Bridge Outlaws bow in the NatWest T20 Blast fixture against Durham Jets on Friday 1 July.

He’ll then feature in T20 and four-day cricket for the remainder of the season.

The 37-year-old made his ODI debut for the Proteas in 2011 and has since become a regular feature of their white ball line-up, as well as playing 20 Test Matches, during which he has collected 57 wickets.

The experienced leg break bowler is ranked fifth in the ODI world bowling rankings and second in the list for Twenty20 cricket.
