The Nottinghamshire trio of Jake Ball, Stuart Broad and Alex Hales have once again been selected by England ahead of the Second Investec Test against Sri Lanka.

Broad and Hales each played starring roles in the host nation’s innings victory at Headingley while Ball, who wasn’t selected but did take the field as 12th man, earns another opportunity to impress with the squad in Durham.

Hales scored a career-best 86 as England posted 298 all out batting first in the opening international encounter of the summer, showing patience and resolve in treacherous batting conditions in occupying the crease for 206 deliveries.

Broad then claimed match figures of 5-78 as the tourists were rolled over for 91 and 119 respectively.

Ball, meanwhile, was selected in the squad for the First Investec Test at Headingley but did not make the final eleven.

The 25-year-old remained with the England team until Friday before returning to his county and starting the current Specsavers County Championship fixture against Hampshire, where his figures on the opening day were 17-3-42-2.

He will now depart the match at the Ageas Bowl at the conclusion of the second day to rejoin England.
