Nottinghamshire all-rounder Sam Wood has been released by the Club.

Wood has made 40 first team appearances since his debut in 2011, including nine white ball matches during the current campaign.

The 23-year-old’s most recent telling contribution was striking a decisive six in the final over victory over Lancashire Lightning, in the NatWest T20 Blast group stage fixture back in June.

"Sam showed a lot of promise when he was coming through our Academy but couldn't nail down a consistent place in our first team," said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

“He’s had his moments in one-day cricket, but with Samit Patel’s continued presence and the emergence of Matt Carter as a specialist off-spinner, it’s been difficult for him to earn those opportunities.

“As a talented cricketer who has always given his all for this Club, everyone at Trent Bridge wishes Sam all the best for the future.”

Trent Bridge will host an Investec Test Match between England and South Africa, and a Royal London One-Day International visit from the West Indies, in 2017.
