Nottinghamshire First Class Debut – arrives for 2013 season

Australia’s Test match opening batsman Ed Cowan joins Nottinghamshire for the first time in 2013.

The left-hander will be available for the first half of the summer, before joining up with his countrymen for the Ashes series in England.

Ed now plays his state cricket for Tasmania, having begun his career with New South Wales. A first class average of around the 40 mark, coupled with the calm, methodical way he accumulates big scores, eventually gained approval from the Australian selectors.

His Test debut arrived against India on Boxing Day, 2011 and he has held his place at the top of the order ever since, scoring his maiden century against South Africa at the ‘Gabba last November.

Having briefly played some county championship cricket for Gloucestershire last summer, on the back of an Australia A tour here, Ed will have an understanding of the demands of the game in England and is relishing the opportunity of joining up with Nottinghamshire for the first time.
