Jake Libby cracked a superb 174 and Savin Perera hit 103 as Nottinghamshire’s Second XI fought back strongly on the second day of their County Championship clash against Leicestershire at Kibworth.

The visitors has spent much of the first day cashing leather as Leicestershire has racked up 401-7 declared.

But led by Captain Libby, they responded in the best way possible by forging into a 62-run lead by the close of play, closing on 463-5.

The right-hander and Chris Gibson resumed on their overnight score of 35-0 and carried the opening stand to 179, which stretched beyond the lunch break.

Only then did Gibson (79), having faced 152 balls and stuck nine fours, err as he presented Richard Jones with an easy catch at mid-wicket off Dieter Klein’s bowling.

There was no let-up for Leicestershire as Perera joined Libby to add a further 122, taking the score past the follow on mark and up to 304.

Libby’s vigil ended after he had registered 19 fours and three sixes in a 231-ball knock, stumped by keeper Harry Swindells off the bowling of Mohammed Ahmed.

Solomon Budinger (3) came and went quickly as he was trapped lbw by Ahmed while trialist James Stamatis (16) suffered the same fate at the hands of Tommy Taylor.

Another century stand followed, this time between Perera and Tom Keast, and it was not until just before the close that the former was caught at mid-off by Klein off Aadil Ali’s bowling. He had faced 199 balls and posted 10 fours and one six.

Matt Carter came to the crease but did not score before stumps, while Keast finished on 52 not out from 60 balls.
