Mick Newell will await a decision on whether or not Graeme Swann can be included before finalising his team to face Somerset at Trent Bridge.

Swann is in the England squad to face South Africa at Cardiff but should be released to play for Notts if Samit Patel retains his place in the starting line-up.

Rob Ferley is omitted in anticipation of Swann’s return but Luke Fletcher and Alex Hales are on standby should the England spinner be retained.

“Team selection is always up in the air when there is a possibility of an international player returning but we have enough players in the squad to give us some good options,” said Newell.

“It’s a very important game because of the league positions of the clubs and the fact that Somerset have a game in hand and it will be important to get the upper hand from the first day.”

Will Jefferson and Bilal Shafayat will open the batting with Ashwell Prince set to make his first LV County Championship appearance at Trent Bridge.

In form duo Mark Wagh and Matt Wood are also included with four from Paul Franks, Mark Ealham, Andre Adams, Darren Pattinson and Charlie Shreck to share the seam-bowling duties.
