Durham have been crowned LV County Champions for a second successive season after consigning Nottinghamhire to an innings defeat.

Nottinghamshire's quest for second position will go to the wire with everything riding on the visit of Sussex in the final round of fixtures.

Forced to followo on, Notts could only register 212 in their second innings and Steve Harmison bowled Mark Ealham to end the contest.

A career best first class score of 78 from Alex Hales was the highlight of the Notts performance but single digit scores from Scott Newman, Mark Wagh, Samit Patel and nightwatchman Darren Pattinson allowed Durham to maintain their momentum.

"Durham have performed very well and they are worthy winners," said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

"They took a grip of the game and didn't let us off the hook but we have to put this to one side and put our efforts into finishing second.

"Sussex will come to Trent Bridge needing points to steer clear of relegation and we have to make sure that we are at our best for the game. We're without Charlie Shreck and Paul Franks but we've got some Pro40 fixtures between now and then to get the rest of our squad in tune."
