England all-rounder Paul Collingwood has played down suggestions that Pakistan’s bowlers can get on top of England in the first npower Test at Trent Bridge.

Pakistan tied their two-Test series against Australia last week after dismissing Ricky Ponting’s men for 88 in their second innings but Collingwood believes that the England batsmen can cope against the pace of Mohammad Asif and Umar Gul and the spin of Danish Kaneria.

“Their bowling certainly looks very strong," said Collingwood who missed England’s Test series against Bangladesh with a shoulder injury.

"They have had conditions where it has swung around quite a bit - and obviously, they come at different angles.

"There is a lot for us to think about there. But at the same time, we've got a lot of strengths like that ourselves with the way we swing the ball.

"Pakistan have got skill, and we are going to have to be very careful. But I still think we can handle what they are going to throw at us."

Nottinghamshire duo Graeme Swann and Stuart Broad are expected to feature at their home venue.
