Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell hopes to include influential opener Alex Hales in his team to face Yorkshire Carnegie in Thursday's Friends Life t20 match at Trent Bridge.

Hales has a quad strain which led to James Taylor acting as his runner in Tuesday's win over Lancashire Lightning.

"We're hopeful that Alex will recover in time to face Yorkshire because the team has benefitted from consistent selection in this competition," said Newell.

"If we beat Yorkshire then we will take a big step towards a quarter-final which is our immediate target."

Scott Elstone is on standby to deputise for Hales with Graeme White waiting in the wings should Samit Patel earn England selection.

Yorkshire also have an eye on topping the group although they will need to end the Outlaws' unbeaten record to gain the initiative.

Newell will look to minimise disruption to his line-up with James Taylor, Michael Lumb, Adam Voges and Riki Wessels amongst the players to retain their place.

Play starts at 7pm.
