James Hayes claimed four wickets, and Ben Wightman three, as Nottinghamshire made inroads into the Lancashire line up on day one of the Second XI Championship fixture at Lady Bay.

Despite losing the toss, the hosts made hay after an opening partnership of 91, reducing the Red Rose to 176-6.

Jack Carney and Danny Lamb combined for a partnership worth 99 to reassert the visitors’ footing in the game, with the former finishing unbeaten overnight on 86.
