Haseeb Hameed passed 9,000 First-Class career runs but Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire were limited to just 10.3 overs of play during a frustrating day one of their Rothesay County Championship Division One clash at Trent Bridge.

The Notts captain, who despite still being aged just 29 has already registered 20 centuries in First-Class cricket to date, went past his latest landmark with an understated clipped single to fine leg.

Hameed ended the day unbeaten on a fluent 40-ball 32, hitting six boundaries and looking in fine touch in difficult conditions, as the hosts reached 42 without loss in the little play that was possible.

His counterpart Ian Holland had won the toss and opted to bowl first, but it took the Bolton-born opener only one over, having cut the first ball of the match through point for four, to reach his milestone.

That was the highlight of the first six hours of the day, with only that over possible after the rain had initially forced a delay to the start until 13:30, before another shower stopped play for three more hours.

Although the rain then did not return for the remainder of the day once further play began at 16:25, the low light levels were a looming issue throughout, and they finally put paid to the day at 17:30.

Thankfully, a far brighter forecast appears to await the sides over the remaining three days, raising hopes for the action yet to come.
