Nottinghamshire’s Second Eleven were frustrated first by rain, then by a 94-run partnership in the day two of their Second Eleven Championship match against Durham.

Weather caused a morning delay, but on resumption at 12.15, Brett Hutton picked up two wickets inside three overs to reduce the home side to 17-2. First he bowled Adam Hickey, before Graham Clark fended a short ball which ballooned to Tom Moores.

With both openers gone, the Nottinghamshire tails were up but rain returned before Mark Wood had reached Ryan Pringle in the middle.

There was no play until 5pm, but Wood and Pringle set about their task well, first taking Durham past 50, then 100. Their partnership reached 94 and the score 111-3 before Gary Keedy dealt the decisive blow in the 31st over, trapping Wood LBW for 31.

He struck again two overs later, having Stuart Poynter caught behind by keeper Tom Keast for one.

Pringle continued to defy the Notts bowlers, but found an equal in Ashley Shaw, who trapped him LBW for 74.

By this time, Durham had lost three wickets for sixteen runs. Barry McCarthy then added 18 before being bowled by Adam Tillcock, and by the close Durham had reached 165-6, still trailing Nottinghamshire by 220 runs.
