Jos Buttler has been called up to the England squad as wicket keeper cover ahead of the first Investec Test against India, beginning on Wednesday 9 July at Trent Bridge.

Buttler, yet to play a test match, joined up with the squad after Matt Prior reported tightness in his left thigh following Monday’s training session.

Prior returned to form in the recent Sri Lanka series after being dropped for the last two Ashes test over the winter, scoring 139 runs and taking 14 catches.

There were calls for Buttler to replace Prior for the two tests against Sri Lanka after excelling with the bat against them in the preceding One Day International series, scoring 121 off just 74 balls.

However, Buttler, who has played 33 ODIs and 36 T20 matches to his name, began the summer with Lancashire, and has kept in good touch through the first half of the season.
