Scotland international Kirstie Gordon is The Blaze’s captain, under whose reign the side have experienced an unprecedented era of success.
Hailing from Huntly in the far north of Scotland - over 150 miles further up than Edinburgh - Gordon has more than 70 caps for her home country, including nine in full IT20 fixtures.
She does, however, also have six caps for England, for whom she played between 2018 and 2019, with her final appearance being her solitary Test match, an Ashes clash with Australia.
Her dual-international experience stems from a situation where she was forced to give up her eligibility to play for Scotland in order to take up her first professional contract.
Having been offered part-time terms ahead of the 2018 Kia Super League by Loughborough Lightning, she was unable to take up the contract unless she declared for England.
Her Scottish status meant she was classed as an overseas player at the time, though a rule change since enabled her to return to represent Scotland at the ICC T20 World Cup in 2026.
It was a full-circle moment for Gordon, whose debut for her home country had come when she was just 14, the same age at which she played for the Huntly men’s first XI too.
Prior to that, she had first moved to England to study sports science at Loughborough University in 2015, subsequently catching the eye while playing for Nottinghamshire.
She continued to impress to the point that she made her England debut at the 2018 T20 World Cup, playing five games as her adoptive nation reached the final.
Named one of the breakout stars of 2018 by the ICC, Gordon went on to sign for then-named Lightning at the start of the regional era in 2020, and has remained with the side ever since.
Upon the side’s transition to being known as The Blaze, and the shifting of their base to Trent Bridge, Gordon was named as the new captain, ushering in an era of dominance.
Under her leadership, The Blaze have lifted four trophies, including a historic treble in 2026, while she has represented three sides in The Hundred, including a stint with Trent Rockets.
