Sussex 379

Notts 509-8 declared (Gallian 199, Fleming 111, Hussey 89, Read 51)

Sussex 159 (Sidebottom 4-15)

Notts 30-0

Notts won by 10 wickets

Our ex-skipper and his successor combined with two sparkling centuries in our first innings before Ryan Sidebottom destroyed the visitors? tail to help us to an unlikely victory over Sussex in the final session.

Said Gallian: ?I think the major question asked of us at the start of the season was how we would replace the runs of Kevin Pietersen.

?Fleming has pretty much answered that with one innings. It was a high quality knock and he dominated the Sussex bowling from the off.

?KP was certainly an aggressive batsman and Fleming has shown he can attack as well. I was able to concentrate on my own innings and let him get on with it.?

After losing the toss, our bowlers chipped away at the Sussex batting order and bowled them out for 379 on the second day.

We lost Darren Bicknell and Anurag Singh early but Gallian and Fleming helped us fly past the Sussex total.

Fleming smashed 111 from 107 balls with 17 fours and a six while Gallian was run out one run short of his second career double century.

We declared on the final day and bowled out Sussex in 53.4 overs, leaving Bicknell and Gallian with time to complete a memorable win.

Added Gallian: ?We went into the final day looking for the win but once we lost the morning session to rain it looked a much more difficult task.

?The key is to get on a roll and build up momentum. Greg Smith took two early wickets to get us going, Graeme Swann took two in the middle and suddenly we were into the tail.

?All credit to the bowlers for their performance on what I thought was a great batting strip. You need a bit of luck in these situations but when mistakes come you have to pounce and we did that perfectly.?
