Nottinghamshire are in talks with New Zealand international Chris Martin to act as the overseas replacement for David Hussey when the Australian leaves to tour Pakistan.

With Hussey part of a 14-man Australia A squad and missing the last month of the season, Director of Cricket Mick Newell has moved quickly to bring in the 32-year-old Kiwi and shore up his depleted bowling attack.

Notts are currently missing three frontline bowlers as Ryan Sidebottom is on England duties, while Charlie Shreck and Mark Ealham are out injured.

Newell said: "Clearly we needed to find a man who could help us cope with our shortage of fast bowlers and Chris would be an ideal replacement.

"We have offered him a contract and are hopeful he will sign in the next few days."

Martin has played 33 Tests for New Zealand, claiming 106 wickets at an average of 34.30.
