Trent Bridge could play host to some of the world’s best sportsmen and women after Nottinghamshire put in a bid to run a 2012 Olympic warm-up archery event.
The ground is one of 10 sporting venues in the county to have submitted applications to be in the Olympic Games brochure for approved sites for training camps and bases.
And Notts have already had early talks with Nottinghamshire Archery Society to see how they can move their bid forward.
Notts Chief Executive Derek Brewer said: “We thought this would be an ideal opportunity to showcase our city, county and the region.
“The county’s connection with Robin Hood provides a good link with archery, and with Lord’s due to host the main Olympic competition, Trent Bridge would be the perfect venue to let the competitors acclimatise to conditions in the country.”
A final list of approved sites will be drawn up in the New Year and circulated to every Olympic nation following the Beijing Games in August 2008.
