Mick Newell hopes that Notts Outlaws can take big strides towards the knockout stages of the Twenty20 Cup with a win against Leicestershire Foxes at Grace Road this evening (play commences 5:30pm).

The Outlaws need to secure two wins from their three remaining fixtures to amass the 13 points that Newell thinks will secure progression to the quarter-finals.

“I would be very surprised if 13 points wasn’t enough to see us through and the sooner we get to that milestone the better,” said Newell.

“We can’t presume that Leicestershire will lose ten out of ten and I think that someone will come a cropper and we have to make sure that it isn’t us.

“We have seen first-hand that Ackerman and Nixon are dangerous players and I’m sure that Jeremy Snape will be keen to impress in his final game for them.

“There’s a possibility that we’ll deploy Charlie Shreck and Darren Pattinson but we’ll look at the wicket first because conditions will be different to Trent Bridge.

“We’ve settled on our opening partnership in Twenty20 in Will Jefferson and Adam Voges and we’ll be looking for them to set the game up for us.”

Notts face Lancashire at Old Trafford tomorrow evening and Yorkshire Carnegie visit Trent Bridge on Friday for the final group fixture (play commences 5.30pm).

The top two teams from each group and the two best third placed teams will qualify for the quarter-finals which will be drawn on Friday evening and played between Monday 7 July and Wednesday 9 July.

Notts Outlaws squad to face Leicestershire Foxes (from): Will Jefferson, Adam Voges, Samit Patel, Bilal Shafayat, Chris Read, Mark Ealham, Paul Franks, Gareth Clough, Rob Ferley, Darren Pattinson, Charlie Shreck, Matt Wood, Chris Cairns, Andre Adams
