Struggling for runs after low scores from Ali Brown (9), Samit Patel (10) and Adam Voges (0), Hales and captain Chris Read produced decisive knocks of 87 and 81 respectivelyas Nott posted 287 all out before bowling out Middlesex for 143 runs inside 37 overs.

Luke Fletcher took 4-19 whilst Andre Adams and Mark Ealham each took two wickets.

“Luke and Andre were probably our best bowlers today and we’ll give Alex an opportunity to play against Leicestershire on Sunday.”
