Chris Read scored his fourth LV County Championship of the season to enhance Nottinghamshire’s prospects of securing a draw against Hampshire.

The Notts captain finished the innings unbeaten on 119 after steering his side past 400 alongside tail-ender Charlie Shreck who was clean bowled with the final ball of the day to leave Notts all out for 407.

Andre Adams gave his wicket away disappointingly in the previous over attempting to reach the bonus point milestone with a poorly-timed drive caught comfortably at mid-on.

Resuming on 48-4, Samit Patel and Bilal Shafayat had restored respectability with a fifth wicket partnership of 78 with Shafayat knocking a season-best 69.

Nottinghamshire will follow-on needing to overturn a deficit of 247 to avoid an innings defeat.
