A day of fluctuating fortunes and 22 wickets left Notts needing to bowl well on the final day at Welbeck against Warwickshire to win the match.

Andrew Carter was the star turn after Warwickshire resumed their innings on 37-0. Mark Footitt made the initial breakthrough with only one run added to the overnight score. Carter then took three wickets in 18 balls to reduce the visitors to 49-4.

An 87 stand by Javid (26) and wicketkeeper Johnson (56) for the 5th wicket against some wayward bowling restored the visitors’ fortunes. However, Carter came back with a further three wickets this time in 19 balls to bring Notts back into the game. Footitt then took the final two wickets as Notts claimed an 81 run lead having bowled Warwicks out for 191. Carter finished with 6-43 from 23 overs and Footitt 3-52 from 21.5.

Notts set out to build on their lead but were bowled out in 35 overs for just 78 by some good accurate bowling by the visiting attack. Montgomery 3-17 Allin 3-10 Anyon 2-34 & Barker 2-11.

Eleven overs remained in the day and Carter struck in the first over having Webb leg before. Mark Footitt clean bowled Newport who played no shot and at 7-2, Notts were keen for more wickets. However Piolet & Ord saw it out to the close. Warwicks require a further 133 to win and Notts a further 8 wkts in what should be a tense finish.
