England will face South Africa at Trent Bridge on Thursday after securing progression to the Super Eights stage of the ICC World Twenty20 with a 48-run victory over Pakistan.

Nottinghamshire duo Stuart Broad (3-17) and Graeme Swann (1-27) helped to restrict Pakistan to 137 after England had posted 185 with Kevin Pietersen returning to the side to fire 58 runs.

"Our approach from the first ball was purposeful and that was the way we needed to bounce back," said England Captain Paul Collingwood.

"We got a great score on the board but we couldn't rest on our laurels and I thought our bowling and fielding was top rate.

"There is a belief in the squad and if we play like that we cover all bases. We've got guys who can hit the ball well, we've got great thinkers and we've got great fielding and bowling.

"All 11 players put their hands up and showed a lot of character."

Thursday’s double-header at Trent Bridge will begin with New Zealand facing Ireland or Bangladesh at 1.30pm before England face South Africa at 5.30pm. Tickets are available from the official ICC website and the ticket hotline 0844 847 2020.
