Akhil Patel will deputise for Paul Franks on the final day of the LV County Championship after the experienced all-rounder suffered a finger injury in the field against Yorkshire on Saturday.
Franks will have an x-ray on Sunday morning before a decision is made as to whether he can join the match for its conclusion.
He removed opening pair Rudolph and Sayers after returning to the field in noticeable discomfort but their fist wicket stand of 244 on an increasingly batsmen-friendly track frustrated the Nottinghamshire seamers.
The stand was the biggest opening partnership at Trent Bridge since 2007
McGrath (18) and Gale (5) steered Yorkshire to 269-2 at the close to establish a 173 run lead going into the final day.
