Nottinghamshire have decided not to pursue their interest in opening batsman Scott Newman following his loan spell at Trent Bridge.

Newman scored 249 runs in 11 LV County Championship innings for Notts including an 82 against Somerset at Taunton having made his debut for the county in July.

"We've had a long look at Scott but we ' ve decided not to pursue our interest any further, " said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

"Scott made a decent contribution for us but Neil Edwards is joining us from Somerset and we want to give more responsibility to Alex Hales next season because he is starting to  show that he is a capable opening batsman in four-day cricket."

Newman returns to Surrey where he has a year to run on his existing contract.
