The Academy side rounded off their season with a resounding victory by 178 runs over Caythorpe seconds on Saturday at Caythorpe

Sam Wood, who started the season with 152 against Bridon, finished it with another hundred, this time 125 undefeated.

Coming to the wicket with the score on 49-2, he and Jake Ball put on 82 for the third wicket, Ball reaching 55 before being stumped having hit two sixes and& seven fours.

Joined by keeper Adeel Shafique, the pair added 164 in 21 overs in a stand dominated by Sam Wood. He reached his 50 from 67 balls and then his hundred in only 24 more hitting 25 off one over from Steve Wilson.

Shafique's batting chances have been limited by the success of the top order this season but he took this chance to show his prowess with 52 from 60 balls before being out caught at which point the declaration came.

Wicket keeper James Oldham was the only Caythorpe batsman to show any resistance to the Academy attack carrying his bat for an undefeated 57 as Caythorpe struggled to 118 all out in 28.1 overs.

Akhil Patel took his tally of wickets to 39 with 3-15. Adam Shepherd recorded 2-19 to reach 54 for the season and Ben McGuire chipped in with 2-24.
