Ryan Sidebottom will represent Notts Outlaws in Sunday’s Friends Provident t20 match against Leicestershire Foxes is he isn’t selected in the England team for the NatWest Series ODI against Australia.

Sidebottom’s presence would be a major boost to Notts who must cope without Dirk Nannes and David Hussey who have been selected for Australia’s Twenty20 internationals against Pakistan.

Scott Elstone has also been named in the squad and Newell is considering handing him a Friends Provident t20 debut. Elstone has captained Notts Academy in the Notts Premier League this season and has impressed Newell this term.

“Scott has been with us throughout the campaign and he has observed what’s expected of the players and how we have approached games,” said Newell.

“I’d have no qualms about picking him but I won’t select the team until I know whether or not Ryan will be made available to us.”

Notts are top of the northern section of the Friends Provident t20 whilst Leicestershire could still move into the top four and qualify for the quarter-finals.

“Leicestershire have an excellent record in Twenty20 cricket and their batting is particularly strong,” said Newell.

“They’re a decent side and they’ll make life difficult for us but we have to continue to play positively and capitalise on the position that we have established.”

Sunday’s game at Grace Road begins at 2.30pm.
