It is a mark of the high standards maintained by Andre Adams that he showed a degree of dissatisfaction with a five wicket haul on the opening day of Nottinghamshire’s LV= County Championship defence.

The New Zealander had Jimmy Adams caught by Luke Fletcher after a 91-run opening stand that disintegrated to 104-4 after Adams saw Myburgh edge to Chris Read immediately prior to two wickets in two balls from Charlie Shreck.

Shreck finished with 4-51 on his return to Trent Bridge after the briefest of loan spells at Kent.

“Wickets fell in clumps and if we can maintain our disciplines tomorrow then we stand a good chance,” said Adams.

“It was a nice result for me but I didn’t feel that I bowled that well. Charlie is a hungry bowler and he is a difficult customer when the ball is swinging.

“We’re happy with where we’re at after the start they got but we feel we can bowl a bit better. Championship winning sides score runs and we have to make sure that we get more than 300 tomorrow.”

Luke Fletcher bowled Danny Briggs to claim his first Championship wicket of the season as Dominic Cork top-scored with 48 to steer his side to 218 all out.

Bad light forced an early finish and Paul Franks (2) and Mark Wagh will resume with Notts six without loss.
