Second Eleven Friendly
Day 1 of 3 Garon Park Southend
Essex 409-6 dec

On this vast open space at Garon Park Notts spent the day in the field as Essex made the most of a placid pitch and a fast outfield.

Michael Thornley, who apart from playing for the Unicorns in the CB40 competition has appeared for Notts and several other county second elevens on trial after his release by Sussex last season, scored 107in an innings that lasted for over four hours and took 213 balls with twenty fours.

In contrast Mark Pettini seeking to regain his form and place in the Essex first eleven was undefeated when the declaration came with his score on 131 batting for 31/2 hours facing 156 balls with nineteen fours.

The pair added 154 for the third wicket.

The Notts bowlers stuck manfully to their task Martin Weightman took 2-81 and ran out Shah for 51 with only two stumps to aim at from backward point.

Michael Robson took three good catches and Jake Ball, who bowled 21 overs, ended with 2-79.

Essex declared but by this time the light had faded and no more play was possible.
