Second Eleven Championship
Day 1 of 3
Notts 484-6 v MCC Universities

Trialist Karl Turner, who narrowly missed out on a hundred on his debut for Notts against Northants, more than made amends with a big innings against the MCC Universities side at Weetwood in Leeds.

His 185 was the backbone of a large total as the visitors batted all day to score 484 on a pitch which was a little two paced and took spin from early on.

His century came off 193 balls with 46 coming in boundaries. Runs came more fluently as the students attack tired & overall Turner faced 300 balls hitting 21 fours & a six before his dismissal with the total on 399.

Batting for just under six hours Turner was prepared to graft for his runs when necessary and was helped to give the innings a sound start by Akhil Patel as they added 130 for the first wicket with Patel contributing 69.

Ali Brown played fluently for his 60 coming at a run a ball and contributions from Scott Elstone (29) and Tom Rowe (32) helped maintain Nottinghamshire's dominance.

Graeme White (45) and Ben Phillips (40) were both undefeated at the close having added 85 for the seventh wicket.
