Mick Newell will consider naming Nottinghamshire spinner Graeme White in his team to face Hampshire at the Rose Bowl when he assesses conditions on Wednesday morning.

White is part of a13-man squad that also includes Darren Pattinson and Charlie Shreck who will also have ambitions to fill the slot left by Stuart Broad who has returned to the England camp ahead of the npower test against India at Lord's.

Notts recovered from a losing streak to earn 11 points from their drawn LV= County Championship match against Somerset last week and expect Hampshire to include Danny Briggs and Imran Tahir in their side.

"Imran has caused us problems in the past but we need to keep on top of him and make sure we score runs off his bowling," said Newell.

"We're one of six teams in the division who will be looking over their shoulders at the moment, as are Hampshire, and we need to play positively so we can look at making ground on other teams."

Newell will resist any temptation to make changes at the top of the Nottinghamshire batting order.

"We have to give the players an opportunity to perform and Neil Edwards is playing in his third game back since breaking his arm," said Newell.

"I believe in all of the players that we have at the club."
